Blog 4: Event 3
I have always had a love-hate relationship with heights. I enjoy being high in the sky like in a plane or in someplace like Seattle’s Space Needle (which I would like to point out, is absolutely breathtaking), but I sometimes have a fear of losing my balance and falling to my death. In an attempt to break this love-hate relationship, I really want to bungee jumping, skydiving, and wing-suiting. I have found that these three items, bungee jumping, skydiving, and wing-suiting, are extremely similar and relate very well to each other, so I have included these three together. Each one of these items will require me to overcome a moment of extreme adrenaline and perhaps fear. This is similar to Into the Wild, when Chris McCandless decides to leave for his journey to Alaska. I’m believe, Chris felt an extreme wave of emotions when he first left his family. I’m sure he felt a combination of doubt, adrenaline, happiness, fear, peace, and possibly regret all at the same time. This was something that he had to overcome on his journey; and once he did, he seemed to be much happier. When I bungee jumping, skydiving, and wing-suiting, I too will be faced with a wall of emotions that I will need to overcome in order to complete my goal. When I look at these three items on my bucket list, I have come to the conclusion that it may be a good idea to complete these tasks before I am married and have my own family. However, these are not tasks that I would want to undertake alone, so I would like to be able to cross these off my list somewhere around my mid-twenties.
Reflection:
When I look at different bucket lists I have noticed that there is normally an overcoming fear section. For example, skydiving, bungee jumping and wing-suiting. Over the years, I have found that I thoroughly enjoy pushing my boundaries and going to the next level. I love the combination of fear, excitement, joy, and regret one feels when they are about to do something completely different. As I looked into this, I have realized that this wave is the reason why I adore public speaking and meeting new people. I love the rush I get when I introduce myself to someone brand new or take the stage in front of tons of people. Since I know that I have a love for pushing my boundaries and overcoming fear, I now know why I am as outgoing as I am.
