Forum 2 The Bucket List Movie
Prompt: Answer the following questions thoughtfully
- Have you found joy in your life? Has your life brought joy to others?
- How do you measure life? Do you measure it differently now than you did at a younger age? Do you foresee the way you evaluate the measure of life changing as you grow older? Why?
- Can you identify with Carter’s need to explore the world without his family even with such a short period of time left to live? Why?
- Have you created a Bucket List? (the obvious answer here should be YES). Have you marked anything off of your list? If so, what are those things you have accomplished? If not, what are the obstacles in your way?
- If you had a year left to live, what would you do, who would you take with you…?
Why I chose this Forum:
I chose this forum because it caused me to really think about myself. Several years ago I was presented with a quote that changed the way I thought. The quote was, “you can either live every day caring for just yourself, or you can live to care for others every day.” I forgot who told me this, but I remember pondering that sentence for days. I liked the way that this quote made me think and I believe this forum exhibits a similar thinking process and that is why I loved this discussion.

Entry:
- I know that throughout my life I have found joy in the things that I have said and done. Even though I have no idea what others are thinking, I believe that I have brought joy different peoples’ lives.
- When I was younger I measured life by what made me “feel alive.” In other words, I strived to experience the adrenaline rush one gets when they are doing something beyond the status quo. Since I have matured a little, I have realized that life is more than a few adrenaline filled moments in my lifetime. Ironically, I have found that I now measure life by trying to bring joy to the people around me.
- One thing that I have been constantly told about relationships in general is that a little separation can actually be a good thing. This is something that I have been able to relate to since I have been in college. A little separation from my family has proved to be a good thing. I believe Carter needed to experience the same thing since he had been with his wife since high school.
- Yes, I have created a bucket list and I have not yet had the opportunity to mark anything off. There are three major things that are keeping me from completing most of my items. These are the lack of money, not old enough, and I don’t have nearly enough free time.
- If I had a year left to live I would bungee jump, skydive, wing-suit, learn to scuba dive, drive on the autobahn, and visit as many different counties as possible. I would take a few close high school friends with me as I completed these items. I would also spend a lot of time with my brother, my parents, and everyone else in my family.
